Concept prt5a

This is probably the closest thing to my final idea that I have yet. However there are some adjustments that need to be made.

Concept prt5

As you can see from these images I'm going for a younger fresh faced character maybe to fresh faced I may need to gruff it up a little.

I needed to make a choice about proportion so I asked a few of my friends what they thought about the picture above. To see what they liked about the proportions of each character. I got some good answers and it helped me to move on with my ideas.

As you can see with the these two pictures I went for a very long limbed tribal look. I like this sort of look and think the proportions offer up some interesting animation prospects. A further aspect that I want to include in futher concepts is a more striking dynamic use of hair. I think it would be realy nice if my characters hair trailed behind him kind of like the way a squirrels tail floats behing a squirrel.

Concept prt4

The pictures above are just a few quick sketches that helped me form some opinions about where I want to go with my characters design. While there are things that I like about them that I intend to incorporate, none of them reflect the final design.

Concept prt3

Hi again, I really don't want to post this but hey, I'm supposed to show how I work! This pic has lots of problems with it in terms of proportion, style and such; but the good thing about it is that I now know which direction I want to head.

The main problem with this is that its not caricature enough to give the feeling that Iwant, whilst not being real enough to pull the look. Plus, there are big issues with the pose and the whole shape of the body. To be quite honest I'm not feeling it yet I guess I need to immerse myself in the culture and look at more images of mayans then maybe I'll feel it a bit better. Hopefully this problem won't last long.

Look forward to some looser more realxed work, I'm sure if I force myself to loosen up then I'll get my flow back. I hope :)

Concept prt2

Im trying to move away from the realistic approach and create a character with real appeal. So I started by simplifying things starting with the face. I drew a couple variations of how I might characterise a mayan face. On the whole I feel like this is the right direction to head in, but there are a lot of things I dislike about the style. I'm still playing around though really trying to let myself get a feel for what I want in a natural way.

Playing

Ok, so I started playing about with stick men to try and get a feel for the way a mayan hunter gatherer may move and hold himself. This was more of an exercise than anything.

Concept

Originally I intended to make my model quite realistic, but after a talk with my tutor today i have changed my mind. We came to the conclusion that the and feel of the animation I am aspiring to create, would be better suited to a more stylised look.

Semester A Timetable

How i intend to manage my project time this semester.

My Aims

My basic idea is to design, create and animate a character using 3d software, in order to produce an animation showreel for industry. My showreel will be themed around the actions of a Mayan Tribesman, by creating a theme for my showreel i hope that it stands out to a prospective employer. Hence my reason for creating a character and not just jumping straight into animation.
I am hoping that creating a character from start to finish will not only show that i have knowlege of the software and others roles in the animation prosses, but also that i am resourceful and willing apply myself to any aspect of charater production.
